Centrist politics has always seemed to me the only way. Blair, Clinton and Obama were all spot on at least in aspiring to be centre-ground politicians.
In spite of everything, I’m still a big Blair fan. For all of his flaws, spin, and mistakes… and totally ignoring the huge wooly mammoth in the room that is Iraq… if you cast that aside, Blair was actually a good man and great Prime Minister in so many ways. He united so many interests, leanings and factions to a moderate, socially liberal and centre-ground consensus, which has made everything before or since look partisan in comparison.
The 2010-2015 Cameron-Clegg alliance also aimed to be a more centre-ground kind of politics than what has gone since.
