Environment

I’m not an active member of Extinction Rebellion, but I’m definitely with them in spirit.

Greta Thunberg is a hero and she’s completely right. The climate crisis is by far the biggest issue the world faces. We are still not acting nearly fast enough to reduce it’s worst effects.

Politicians must wake up the fact that they must act. This means making some tough decisions that will be unpopular with a lot of people and some big industries. The oil, meat and airline industries for example, will have to be completely rethought, if humanity is to stand a chance.

I 100% believe in compassionate democratic capitalism, however in some regards democracy has it’s flaws. The people don’t always choose what is actually best for them – just look at Brexit. The green economy needs to replace the oil economy. Releasing carbon into the environment needs to carry the equivalent financial expense to what it will likely cost the planet in the long term. Easier said than done, of course.

Non-essential business flights need to be greatly reduced, ideally stopped altogether. Who really needs to shake someone’s hand in person these days, seriously! Use video conferencing. It saves you hours spent travelling that could be spent doing useful work.
